Activity - GDO710 - Week 5
This week's challenge activity is to review the 5 domains of reflective writing:
Dispositional } Time management, Motivation, General behaviour and Discipline.
Affective } Feelings, experiences and emotions.
Interpersonal } Abilities to work with others, listening, verbal/non-verbal communication, problem-solving, decision making.
Cognitive } Strengths & Weaknesses
Procedural } Skills you already have and room for improvement.
The Challenge:
Step 1
"Review all my previous learning journal entries individually and then figure out which of the five reflective domains are being used. Give each journal entry tag based on the domain." (Falmouth, 2022)
Step 2
"Tally up the number of times each reflective domain tag is used throughout the journal. This data could be visualised in a table or documented in text form. Note this down and acknowledge any imbalances. Which domain is the most dominant in your journal? Which domain needs more consideration in your reflection?" (Falmouth, 2022)
Step 3
"Review the content in your journal. Acknowledge entries that could be used to help formulate a SMART goal. Identify the highest priority entries and create two or three SMART goals that build on the reflection from the journal entries." (Falmouth, 2022)

Step 2!
As you can see from my very formal analysis of my journals, most of my journal entries are quite heavily written in the Affective domain style. I believe this is mainly because of the way I write. I like to add stories / prior experience into my writing as it makes it easier for me to understand and usually real life examples make the writing more interesting to read for others.
It is clear to see that my writing style is severely lacking in the Interpersonal domain style. I have attended multiple online lecturers for this unit, however, I never feel the need to put this information in my journal. For the project I am working on, I am doing them solo, which means I don't have any communication with my team members. I message on Discord from time to time, but again, nothing noteworthy was written down in my writings.
Procedural, Cognitive & Dispositional seem to be split pretty evenly, I notice that I explore the majority of these domains as we get further into the degree and as my writing progresses. I found that my latest journal (the one I wrote before this one - Week 5 - Development) seems to encompass most of the domains which is an achievement! It is just missing the Interpersonal domain which I could have filled out if I was able to attend the lecture this week.
I need to make sure I include more of the domains and not get carried away with one or two. That being said, I will start taking active steps toward this. This leads me into step 3 of this activity!
Step 3!
The two journals which I am going to create smart targets for are: Week 5 - Research & Week 4 - Research. These are some of my most recent entries so they are still fresh in my mind and I will have an easier time filling out the other domains.
S.M.A.R.T Target #1
I will improve my reflective writing style so that I can produce better writings which help me understand where I can improve as a game design practitioner.
To do this, I will be review 2 of my previous learning journals and practice writing in different domain styles. I will spend 2 hours reviewing each one of the journals and the week's content on the Falmouth University website. This goal should be achieved before the online lecturer in the upcoming week.
S.M.A.R.T Target #2
I will improve my reflective writing style so that I can produce better writings which help me understand where I can improve as a game design practitioner.
The biggest flaw in my journals to date is the lack of writing in the Interpersonal domain. To remedy this, I will make sure to engage through discord and through online lectures and then record this in my journals. To measure this I will ensure that I have at least 3 journals by the end of the term (12 weeks) which have the tag Interpersonal.
S.M.A.R.T Target #3
I will improve my reflective writing style so that I can produce better writings which help me understand where I can improve as a game design practitioner.
To do this, I will ensure that I include a new section at the end of all my upcoming journals until the end of the term. This section will reflect on the following domains: Procedural, Cognitive & Dispositional as I can use more practice. I will dedicate 2 hours a week to writing these journals and will review my progress at the end of the term.
Overall! I found this activity really useful! It gave me a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses when writing my journals and has given me direction to improve.
Onwards to week 6!
